Boat Building: Day 4

Yesterday we did A LOT. We worked our buns off during the day because we knew that in the evening we had a paddling excursion planned. We began earlier and had many helping hands to accomplish our checklist. Seth continued to work on the seats, Matt and Keith planned and cut the gunwales, Diana caned a seat, Leslie filled in odds and ends, and we scraped and sanded the inside of the boat. Turning the boat over opened a whole new world of work. We were both excited and overwhelmed!

In the evening we went to the Connecticut and Williams rivers to practice poling and have pizza and drinks. Bob (Allie's dad) arrived just in time for this excursion.

Sanding the exterior of the canoe, its nice being outside!
Diana (Allie's Mom) caning one of our other canoe seats so we could use that boat in the evening
Matt and Keith planing the board for the gunwales
Flipping the boat over off of the mold
All admiring the inside of the boat
Scraping and sanding the inside of the boat
Matt routing out the scupper holes on the gunwales
Leslie helping Seth with the seats
