After a long journey home, driving a total of 3,500 miles over 5 days we finally made it!
Yesterday was our first full day of canoe building. The major goal
for the day was to strip out (create the body) the entire canoe. This
was a tall order, especially after many long days on the road, but we
were full of caffeine and ready to go. By 10:30 pm we were slap happy
but we had reached our goal. And boy does she look beautiful!
Here are a few photos that outline our process and progress.

The first strip took a while to put on because its placement affects the shape of the boat |
|
|
The strips have one convex and one concave side so they fit together nicely |

More glueing, the walls are coming up! Check out the pattern we included |
|
Brian works on the chop saw cutting strips to length (perfectly!) |
|
Nurse, more glue! |
|
Only a few more strips left! |
|
Brian and Keith plan out the last strip! |
And, that's a wrap! Goodnight!
You guys ROCK! I miss you, AFM! :)
ReplyDeleteWill you guys sing this for me:
"What I like most about rivers is you can't step in the same river twice, the water's always changing always flowing! But people I guess can't live like that, we all must pay a price! To be safe we lose our chance of ever knowing! What's around the river bend, waiting just around the river bend--
I LOOK ONCE MORE
just around the river bend, beyond the shore!
somewhere past the sea, who knows what for (?!)
why do all my dreams extend just around the riverbend?
etc.
etc.
should I marry Kokoum?
WOW, I totally want to join the boat building party. Totally inspirational. So jealous.
